19: Fundamentals of Nursing

This course is designed to prepare student nurses to;

  • Apply principles of professionalism in delivering nursing care 
  • Apply the nursing theories and process in nursing practice 
  • Utilize the principle of infection prevention and control during patient/client management 
  • Perform basic nursing procedures 
  • Perform health assessment
  • integrate the Nursing process in the provision of care 
  • manage the unconscious patient 
  • Provide follow-up care to patient's following discharge from the ward.

Nursing is an art and science. as an art, you will learn how to deliver care with compassion, caring, and respect for each patient's dignity and individuality.

Nursing a science, is based on a body of knowledge and evidence based practices that are continually changing with new discoveries and innovations. 

By integrating both the art and science of nursing, the quality of care you provide is at the highest standards and benefits patients and their families. 

therefore, as a nurse you are expected to acquire competent knowledge and skills, demonstrate professional standards when providing patient-centered-care, apply critical thinking skills, have ability to detect and prevent complications, apply fundamental roles of a nurse and participate in research to improve the body of knowledge and to improve patients care.
