Optometrists and opticians are professionals who are trained to assess vision and take necessary corrective measures. There existed a gap in taking care of persons with refractive errors, thus the need to train Optometrists. The trained optometrists have improved care to persons with visual impairment to enable them to lead a better quality of life. The ratio of optometrists to patient currently is 1:600000 and in remote parts of the country the ratio is more than this, while the recommended ratio is 1:10000.  In line with The Universal Health Coverage KMTC is training competent optometrists to contribute to the Country’s human resource.
